Blackberry

Both Evergreen and Himalayan Blackberries came from Europe and Asia to our country in the late 1800s.

The Evergreen Blackberry was domesticated and is now the second most planted commercial berry in Oregon.  They produce a higher yield per acre than Marionberries.

The Himalayan Blackberry is the one that grows along many of the roads in the northwest and is hard to contain.

The rare and small little wild blackberries are the first wild berry to ripen staring in July. They are a tart small berry sometimes called the Trailing Blackberry or Dew Berry. This berry and the Huckleberry are two of nature's finest berries.
